General scope
As an electronics professional and if you are not living under a rock, we are all confronted with a disruption of the supply chain that is in the midst of a tornado like we’ve never experienced one. Simply said, “There haven’t been enough electronic parts to go around and no one is safe from the global shortage”.
Each company being an IC, Wafer foundry, assembly house, electronic component supplier, board, system or display manufacturer are already heavily impacted and additional cost increases are expected on most of the products in the months to come. A good example are raw materials that are short in supply. Suddenly lead frames, substrates and IC packaging becomes more expensive than the "die" itself. Different product lines are suddenly reviewed that result in earlier End of Life announcements with even an expensive re-engineering of a part of the end products is the only option to go forward. Worldwide logistics are all seeing an enormous cost increase in both Sea and Air freight. This cocktail mix of obstacles are often resulting in significant higher pricing on current, future and backlog orders caused by a mix of circumstances including the lack of availability of raw materials. Unfortunately and more importantly, it creates uncertain and/or unpredictable lead times often combined with unstable and increased pricing .
We understand that our customers are worried and especially those who are not always familiar with the complexity of the ecosystem of the supply chain of every part placed on every PCB. Nowadays parts and boards move around the world before the end product is ready for sale. Unfortunately, it is expected this situation will not come to an end soon and will be difficult to predict when we go to a more normal situation.
In general, the macro-economic barometer are showing worldwide growth with strong recovery indicators in post pandemic times. Almost all Alcom manufacturers and partners have increased pricing and lead times several times over the last 9 months. Some vendors are no longer accepting new orders for the upcoming period. It seems it is going to become worse before it gets better.
Rest assured that Alcom electronics are doing everything possible to minimize the delays in deliveries which includes specific measures. We encourage all our customers to place their purchase orders at Alcom, well in advance.
