7 kV Isolator Intrinsic Safety Certification Renewed

NVE aced a rigorous audit to renew its ATEX and IECEx intrinsically safe certifications. NVE isolators are the most rugged in the industry, including up to 7 kVrms isolation, 1200 Vrms Working Voltage, 100 teraohm isolation resistance, and certification over the full SELV range. Intrinsically Safe power supplies must be in the Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) range of 24 to 60 volts. Unlike other devices, NVE isolators are certified over the full SELV range.

ATEX is a European certification, while IECEx is accepted in many other countries, including the U.S., China, and Japan. NVE has both ATEX and IECEx certifications, so the isolators can meet intrinsic safety requirements anywhere in the world.

Three isolator lines have Intrinsically Safe versions:

  • IL7xxVE-Series isolated datacouplers are rated for best-in-class 7 kVrms Reinforced Isolation under the gold-standard IEC 60747-17 (VDE 0884-17):2021-10 standard.
  • IL0xx-Series isolators are low power and Intrinsically Safe, reducing energy usage in hazardous areas or allowing more channels for a given power budget.
  • IL3685VE isolated transceivers are fully compliant with RS-485 and PROFIBUS standards and designed for harsh environments. In addition to being Intrinsically Safe, they have best-in-class 6 kVrms Reinforced Isolation, 15 kV bus ESD, 125 °C, thermal shutdown protection, and hot-plug capability. And they’re the world’s fastest isolated transceivers at 40 Mbps.

  • 0.3 mA/channel total typical quiescent current
  • 10 Mbps guaranteed maximum data rate
  • Extended 2.5 to 5.5 volt supply range
  • −40 °C to +100 °C
  • No carriers or clocks for low EMI emissions
  • 44000 year barrier life
  • 50 kV/μs typical common mode transient immunity

IL7xxVE-Series Features:

  • High speed: 150 Mbps typical (S-Series)
  • High temperature: −40 °C to +125 °C (T-Series and V-Series
  • 6 kVRMS Reinforced Isolation; 1.2 kVRMS Working Voltage (V-Series)
  • 2.7 to 5.5 volt supply range
  • 100 kV/μs Common Mode Transient Immunity
  • No carrier or clock for low EMI emissions and susceptibility

  • 40 Mbps data rate
  • 3 V to 5 V power supplies
  • 20 ns propagation delay
  • PROFIBUS fully compliant
  • Hot-plug capable
  • 50 kV/μs typ.; 30 kV/μs min. common mode transient immunity
